CERN specifies Reids' Porta-Gantry system

12 November 2009

CERN, The European Organization for Nuclear Research located in Geneva, specified Reid Lifting Porta-Gantry systems for multiple applications.

When CERN needed a versatile gantry for various applications such as the immersion of 14kA diodes into a liquid nitrogen Dewar for electrical tests, as well as lifting of translation tables for the calibration of magnetic measurements equipment, they approached REID Lifting who provided the solution with their Porta-Gantry system. CERN immediately saw the benefits in the lightweight, portable and easily adaptable nature of the system.

Even though it was not necessary to have a height-adaptable device, there were obvious flexibility and stabilization benefits when higher height lifting is not required. They also required a compact mobile unit to be able to easily move it around in busy areas.

REID Lifting responded rapidly with a system based around their small configurations with a working load limit of 500kg (part of a range to WLL 5,000kg) with a delivery of just 2 weeks from the receipt of order. Reid Liftings' Phillip Ellis said that "CERN were very pleased with REIDs' response.
