10 June 2009

March 2009 saw the 30th aniversary of Kubotas' arrival in the UK and Ireland.

The UK company comprises of three operating divisions – Tractor & Groundcare, Construction Equipment, and Engines and was set-up in 1979 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Kubota Corporation. Now represented on every continent, Kubota is a world leader in compact tractors and diesel ride-on mowers, world market leader in mini excavators, and the global leader in diesel engines under 100hp.

Kubota Tractor & Groundcare Division has enjoyed 30 consecutive years at the forefront of the UK and Ireland market for compact tractors and ride-on mowers, as well as being the global leader in the sub 50hp tractor sector. During this time the company pioneered many of the innovations now taken for granted in the tractor and groundcare industry and has sold in excess of 60,000 machines, from a range including 23 tractor models, spanning 12-128hp, 12 ride-on mower models, catering for domestic and professional users alike, and 4 variants of the RTV900 all-terrain utility vehicle.

Kubota Construction Equipment Division introduced mini excavators to the UK and Ireland in 1979 and the brand is now firmly established as the UK, European and world market leader, with the worlds' widest range of 19 models from 850kg to 8 tonnes capacity. At the beginning of 2008 Kubota became the first mini excavator manufacturer to sell more than 30,000 machines in Britain and to celebrate this the 30,000th mini was donated to the Lighthouse Club, with £33,000 then subsequently raised by this machine for the construction industry charity.

Kubota was also the first mini excavator manufacturer, in the UK and Ireland, to offer a 3 year warranty as standard, as well as being the first excavator manufacturer to offer an integral security system as standard, with the recently upgraded 'ANTI-THEFT PLUS' system now benefiting from Thatcham certification.

Kubota Engines Division provides a comprehensive range of compact engines, from 5.6hp to 99.2hp and whilst they are fitted to all the market leading Kubota equipment, around 70 per cent of total engine sales are made to other major OEMs. With more than 22 million Kubota engines now hard at work, in an extensive range of equipment and applications, around the globe, Kubota is the preferred supplier of diesel engines to some of the world’s leading plant and equipment manufacturers.

Despite the current economic downturn, Kubota (UK) Ltd is continuing to make steady progress in the face of some difficult trading conditions. Mr T Omote, Managing Director of Kubota (UK) said; "Kubota is firmly established as an international brand leader and it is with enormous pride that we celebrate 30 years serving the British market. The outstanding quality, performance, reliability and exceptional value-for-money of all our products, combined with unbeatable dealer support and the highly professional and totally committed Kubota UK team at our Thame headquarters, have all enabled us to become and remain the major force in the UK and Ireland, and it is these vitally important criteria which we believe will help us through the current recession".

Mr Omote concluded; "At Kubota we aim to attain an appropriate share of each market we serve. Despite the tough conditions in some sectors at the present time, particularly construction, we remain totally focussed on the needs of our UK and Irish customers as we work, in conjunction with our nationwide network of Kubota dealers, towards improving and maintaining our leading position in all the three main business sectors in which we operate".
