Stannah supports message of European Week for Safety & Health

Stannah’s Manual Handling guide supports the key message of the European Week for Safety and Health at Work 2007.
The ‘Lighten the Load’ campaign for the European Week for Safety and Health at Work 2007 (22nd – 26th October 2207), is focusing on musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), and the prevention of MSDs in the workplace.
Stannah Microlifts Manual Handling guide, offering advice to businesses on recognising good and bad practice and making changes in manual handling, compliments the ‘Lighten the Load’ campaign and is a useful aid to those assessing their current lifting and handling procedures.
One million people each year in the UK are affected by work related MSDs, leading to an average of 20 days off work which is a massive human and economic cost to employers. Many injuries arise through the repetitive movement of light or difficult to handle loads. A key message from both the European Week for Safety and Health at Work and the Stannah Manual Handling guide is where reasonably practical, to avoid manual handling.
The introduction of processes or technology which reduces repetitive lifting and handling of loads will aid in the prevention of MSDs.
