ClearView upgrade CCTV at James Hornsby School

27 August 2010

Benefitting from the digital CCTV upgrade from ClearView Communications, James Hornsby School is a large secondary school in Laindon, Essex, with over 1300 pupils.

The school had been experiencing problems with their existing multicamera digital CCTV system and asked ClearViews' staff to provide them with the companys' free risk assessment and analysis of the existing system against their needs.

The results of the extensive survey showed that the best solution would be to replace the existing central recording system with a distributed system where recorders are situated locally to the cameras. This philosophy
suited the fragmented layout of the school which comprised a mix of old and new buildings.

A variety of methods were used to connect cameras and networked recorders, including the schools' fibre-optic computer network, video coaxial and CAT5 data cable. By converting analogue CCTV camera pictures to digital IP signals and compressing the data, use of the schools' computer network to transmit video was not a problem. Live and recorded camera images can be viewed by any authorised PC on the network, when accessed by passwords which govern the users' system rights.

The Schools' facilities manager was happy with ClearViews' design and ongoing maintenance service;

“ClearView's knowledge of the technology was impressive and their engineers worked with us allowing the new system to be installed during term time with minimum disruption.”
