Large and modern buildings, very large or extensions, can’t be solved without expansion joints gaps – like a casual clothing article, without zipper...
Different sections of adjacent buildings having different ways of movement. On the vertical, the movements is based mainly on different age and weight. On the horizontal, these movements is generated by wind, traffic and thermal expansion.
Without proper expansion joint profiles, major cracks will appear on the entire zone of section joint: hallways, facade, roof.
The range of expansion movements can be small – only few millimeters or centimeters – but they are based on huge forces; therefore, is not possible to avoid.
