Office Partition Manifestations

The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) states that glazing should be clearly identifiable with a minimum requirement for 2 rows of 50mm dots, squares or bands, located at a height of 85cm – 100cm and between 140cm – 160cm.
Office partitions manifestations must be applied to glass and glazing located in “critical locations” in order to raise its visibility and reduce the potential for human accident from walking into glass or doors.
Document N of the DDA originally required office partition manifestations to be installed at 1500mm height to increase the safety of glass and glazing in critical locations. This neglected to include children, small adults or those using disability vehicles. A new regulation, Document M “Access to and Use of Buildings”, was issued. This required manifestations at two specific height ranges, in order to protect the people listed above.
The new DDA states: –
“People with visual impairment should be in no doubt as to the location of the glass entrance doors, especially when they are within a glazed screen. The choice of a different style of manifestation for the door and the glazed screen can help to differentiate between them.
The presence of the door should be apparent not only when it is shut but also when it is open. Where it can be held open, steps should be taken to avoid people being harmed by walking into the door.”
