A successful fire protection strategy starts with Protectapeel

14 March 2023

A successful fire protection strategy involves reviewing construction materials for their ability to restrain the passage of flames.

The materials used in the construction of a building, have a key part to play in preventing the spread of flames and smoke.

Although the legislation has changed recently, the requirements in relation to fire risk assessment and controls and the range of practical precautions have not changed.

How a fire develops in the very early stages is of crucial importance to ensure safe evacuation from a building. This is why we had our Protectapeel® spray on glass protection coatings tested to UK standards.

Warrington Fire conducted the construction fire testing BS 476 Part 7 Spread of flame test. Reaction to fire testing looks at the combustibility and ignitability of a material, focusing on its contribution to fire development and spread, rather than its ability to resist the passage of fire. The test produces a fire rating of Class 1,2,3 or 4 depending upon how far a flame travels over a coated surface. The ratings are based on the lowest flame spread, with Class 1 being the best rating.

We pride ourselves in manufacturing the very best surface protection products, that not only prevent damage but also provide the construction industry with a better solution to also adhere to regulatory requirements. Protectapeel® construction protection coatings achieved a Class 1 and Class 2 rating.
