About Oldroyd Construction Membranes

For more than 25 years, Norwegian manufacturer Oldroyd have developed advanced membrane systems for the building and construction sector, and are now the leading supplier of membrane systems for tunnels in Scandinavia.

The relationship between Newton Waterproofing Systems and Oldroyd goes back decades, and we are now pleased to act as the exclusive UK distributor for the number one sustainable fireproof and waterproof solution for underground

A completely unique membrane in the UK waterproofing market, Oldroyd Xtf is a high performance waterproof and fire resistant membrane designed to protect tunnels from water ingress, at the same time as delivering industry-leading fire resistance for a cavity drain membrane.

Oldroyd Xtf membrane is tested according to the EN 13501 standard for ‘Fire classification of construction products and building elements – Part 1: Classification using data from reaction to fire tests’. As a result, the membrane is classified to B-s2.d0, meaning it completely prevents burning droplets when exposed to fire.

Oldroyd Xtf is approved by BaneNor and Sporveien Oslo, and has been installed in tunnel waterproofing applications across Scandinavia

Oldroyd Xtf was tested according to fire test method EN 13823 – Single Burning Item, which is one of the tests to provide a fire classification according to EN 13501-1.

This specific test evaluates a the membranes’ fire properties regarding its heat release rate, smoke production, flame spread and burning droplets/particles. Two wings are mounted to create a corner, into which a burner with a heat release rate of 30 kW is placed, and turned on for 21 minutes.

Combustion gases are collected through a hood, where the heat release rate and smoke production are measured. Flame spread and burning droplets/particles are visually observed.

Oldroyd XTF achieved a fire classification of B-s2.d0:

B – Combustible materials – Very limited contribution to fire
s2 – Emissions with average volume intensity
    d0 – No burning droplets

Oldroyd XTF is the best membrane available in the UK for a combined fire and waterproof solution for below-ground projects. It has already been installed at the Grade I Listed British Museum in London in order to provide a waterproofing system that would protect the tunnels against both water ingress and fire – read the case study here.
