2023 continues to be a busy time for Westfield Group UK Limited as we head towards the Easter period. The workload is varied with a focus on our work this month being with the NHS in Southampton and social housing in Southampton, Winchester and Arun District Council.
A few sobering asbestos facts to consider.- It is over twenty years since the UK banned the use of all asbestos. Still asbestos may be found in any building built before the year 2000, including schools and hospitals.
- Asbestos is not banned in the U.S.A. Asbestos mining was banned in 2002 with the closing of the last U.S. asbestos mine. However, it is still legal to import and use the mineral in small amounts. Without a complete ban, many products still legally contain up to 1% of asbestos. Official figure revealed that in the first quarter of 2022, nearly 114 metric tonnes were imported.
- Studies have revealed there is no safe level of asbestos exposure. That’s not to say everyone exposed to asbestos will develop health problems, but any level of exposure will increase the likelihood of asbestos related medical issues.
