Riverside and UNTHA unveil shredding innovation for first time in UK at RWM

Riverside Waste Machinery, the specialist shredding and baling equipment supplier, will once again have a major presence at the ‘RWM in partnership with CIWM’ exhibition (September 13-15th).

Joining forces with pioneering Austrian shredder manufacturer UNTHA on one of the largest stands of the show, the team will demonstrate its leading expertise in waste management. Visitors to stand 1170 will see the all-new UNTHA VR series shredder when it is unveiled for the very first time in the UK. Poised to take the waste industry by storm, the powerful new innovation in single-shaft engineering is suitable for a range of applications including plastic films, packaging and lump, demolition timber and production waste, and boasts a host of new design concepts that will reap greater efficiencies for the user. Riverside managing director Chris Oldfield explains: “In 2009, RWM provided a perfect platform to launch the spectacular TR series shredder to the UK marketplace. So when we saw the VR in action in Austria, we couldn’t wait to put our plans together for our 2011 RWM stand. “The VR contains an innovative new drive mechanism that has not been used on a shredder before, but is more commonly seen in heavy-duty applications such as mining and road-planing machines. The gearbox sits neatly inside the shredder’s rotor – what is now the largest on the market – and drives through the full 700mm diameter as opposed to only a small diameter stub shaft. Because the rotor diameter is so great, the rotor speed can be reduced without compromising the cutter tip speed. Even with the reduced RPM there is an unparalleled rate of throughput. Clients could expect to shred up to 7 tonnes of plastic bottles per hour, or 5 tonnes of wooden pallets per hour for example.” Visitors to the Riverside stand will see that, aesthetically the VR waste shredder follows the same modern, clean and recognisable design of UNTHA’s other new machinery. But a first-hand look at this new machine will also reveal other benefits. With better foreign object detection, a maintenance-free ram device, interchangeable and indexable cutters, touch screens for operational simplicity and digital logging of all shredding data for continual efficiency analysis at UNTHA’s Austrian headquarters, the benefits of the VR really are vast. Chris continues: “The VR supports and proactively encourages smarter working which allows clients to achieve greater efficiencies from their shredding technology. Developed with the input of experienced industry operators, the shredder closely fits the requirements of modern waste applications.” As well as the VR, the team will be showcasing the RS100 shredder, a machine that has been proving especially popular in recent months. Perfect for very exacting shredding requirements the machine can achieve particle sizes as small as 15mm, which is ideal for clients handling confidential paper, hazardous waste or production destruction As always, RWM attendees will be able to speak to Riverside’s consultants on the stand, to discuss ways to make their business more successful using waste processing technologies. Chris concludes: “Our stand is never just about machinery. Yes we showcase our shredders and provide recommendations as to bolt- on technology such as conveyors, magnets, screens and wind-shifters, but our experts also help companies understand how to satisfy their landfill diversion commitments whilst maybe even generating a valuable additional income stream in the process.” Finally, Alois Kitzberger, managing director of UNTHA will be visiting the UK to personally meet existing and prospective customers alike at RWM.
