Avoid Taylored Joinery!!! Had Ben quote for a bespoke curved staircase, first dealings I had were 25th August 2022, quote was accepted and 50% deposit of paid for installation January 2023. After many excuses we finally got a call from Ben around April 2023 to tell us that the company was going into administration and he wanted us to know, before we received the letter, he proceeded to tell us not to worry as he would be completing the job within the agreed price, but this would be through his other company BJT developments (That company is now closed). He then asked for another £9,600 for materials he needed. I was in the position where I had to either take the gamble and pay Ben, hoping to get the job done at the original price, or start again with another company and lose the £30,000 plus already paid. I made the mistake of paying Ben. He promised July installation, then many dates after. They did turn up and install the lower basic stair on the 3 story staircase but left it with no handrail for months with promise of completion which never happened. After much pressure, Ben turned up to finish the lower stair at the end of October, he clearly had no intention of completing it, came with 1 spindle which wasn't as agreed, but proceeded to drill holes, then asked my Wife for butter as he had forgotten his grease, then hit metal in the staircase and broke his drill, that was the last we saw of Ben. He left us with a dangerous, unusable lower stair once again. On the Monday I contacted Ben, he always answered the phone and never avoided me, just promises and excuse after excuse! In the end he held his hands up and said the job was too much for him, he thought he could do it but lost staff. He put us in touch with Acre Joinery (Acre made it very clear they were in no way affiliated with Taylored Joinery or BJT) who couldn't have been more helpful, in the end Acre couldn't do the job but were honest and were a massive help in finding someone who could complete the job, sending drawings and dimensions at no cost. I have now paid a deposit with the new company to do the job, unfortunately I have had to completely start again, the small amount of work Ben left us with is having to be ripped out and redone.I contacted Ben and asked him if he could look at refunding the £9,600 from when he took the job on under the BJT Developments company, he said he would look at what he could send back but after chasing, I never heard from him. Obviously the large lump sum was lost with the administration and knew I would never see that.Ben has now closed BJT development but has reopened Taylored joinery but trades officially under Benjamin James Timber.I will be taking advice but please don't make the mistake I did of trusting this company, keeping it local as I did, I am currently £40.000 out of pocket and Taylored Joinery are back trading.I am happy to provide photos and evidence, do not get burnt by this company. I have been made fully aware that it wasn't just myself put in this position.
