The RSC Undressed - Diary of a Special Uniform Project

08 March 2011

LONDON. Monday, 21st February, 2011 The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and Fashionizer, the couture uniform company, are collaborating to write a blog about the design and development of the RSC’s brand new uniforms.

The blog gives remarkable insight into the creative process involved in putting together inspiring uniform designs; and about how two very different organisations come together over shared ideas and approach. Whilst Fashionizer has uniformed the likes of Kurt Geiger staff and more recently the new St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, however it has never been asked to dress staff in a historic theatre before, and expectations are rightly high... the RSC would ideally like something unique and befitting of their creative pedigree.

Written by Elizabeth Wainwright, Head of Theatre Operations at the RSC and Debbie Leon, Managing Director of Fashionizer, the RSC/Fashionizer blog divulges the highs and lows of this rather unusual uniform project from design inception through the extensive staff consultation, various manufacturing and sizing challenges, as well as the creation of specialist accessories.

The new uniforms for all of the RSCs employees including Box Office, Front of House, Management, Catering, Tour Guides and Retail staff, and are being created for the RSC’s multi-million pound Transformation of the brand new theatre this Spring and will be delivered in April.
