Lumen Rooflight Proud to be part of Crash Project helping the homeless

10 February 2014

Lumen Rooflight has supplied 15 Conservation style rooflights for a homelessness charity project in Dorset.

CRASH is the construction and property industry’s charity, which focuses on improving buildings that offer help and shelter to homeless people across the UK. CRASH’s latest project, in association with main contractor BAM, involved the renovation of a number of courtyard buildings at The Pilsdon Community working farm and refuge.

Part of the development involved converting an existing stable block into short-term accommodation for people who have been sleeping rough.

Project Surveyor for BAM Construction, Carl Tilton, said: “CRASH encourages industry leading companies to get directly involved, matching their expertise to the needs of a particular homelessness project.

“Lumen’s conservation style rooflights, with their low profile and high specification, were perfect for the sympathetic restoration of the Pilsdon Community buildings.

“Contributions from companies like Lumen allow vital renovations and developments of emergency night shelters, day centres and hostels to be carried out to a high standard. As a result safe, sustainable and welcoming places are created where vulnerable people can seek help.”

Managing Director of Lumen Rooflight, Paul Trace, said: “Its always good to be able to put something back into the community and this CRASH project is an excellent example of a wide variety of trades coming together to work towards a fantastic cause.”

CRASH helps an average of 85 homelessness charities a year by providing pro-bono professional advice, donations of building materials and cash grants.
