Tuscan Foundry restores guttering for listed building library

17 September 2009

The original library in Woodstock is now privately owned and stands opposite Blenheim Palace. Due to the buildings' preservation order, any changes to the property needed to be approved by the local Council.

The plastic guttering situated on the front of the property needed to be replaced as it was leaking and the owner felt that it was time to respect the buildings' heritage and restore the property to its former glory. This meant replacing the plastic guttering with a more traditional alternative that was in keeping with the structures'original architecture.

The owner approached Tuscan Foundry Products, as their products are sustainable and architecturally sensitive. Since Victorian times cast iron guttering has been the preferred option when installing guttering systems on period properties as it remains faithful to original designs. Cast iron is also a cost-effective product to choose, as it has a lifespan of over 100 years and requires minimal maintenance.

Tuscan Foundry supplied the owner with cast iron guttering, bespoke hopper heads and downpipes which he then installed himself. The owner chose ‘regal’ lions (featured on Tuscan Foundrys' logo) for his bespoke hopper heads and painted the rainwater system in a bespoke colour to add a decadent finish to the project.

Tuscan will also supply the owner for further guttering restoration work to be carried out at the rear of the property.
