01 September 2009

A remarkable octagonal interpretation unit, manufactured by creative sign and design company Fitzpatrick Woolmer, has been officially unveiled by the Mayor of Bedford in St. Pauls' Square.

The unusual custom structure bearing eight sides and a series of delightful etched zinc panels, is fondly referred to by its manufacturer, Fitzpatrick Woolmer, as The Bedford Monolith. Working with Interpretation Consultant Dennis Brennan of Brennan Design, Fitzpatrick Woolmers' skilled team of metal craftsmen turned an innovative idea into reality.

Mick Clark, metal workshop Supervisor at Fitzpatrick Woolmer said; “The Monolith was a fantastic project to work on. The idea was great, as was the sense of achievement from turning the concept into reality, especially when adhering to our stringent quality controls. I think you will agree though, the finished product is great and a real landmark for Bedford.”

Mark Woolmer, Managing Director of Fitzpatrick Woolmer said; “As a business we never shy away from a challenge. our metal and wood workshops are experienced in the design and build of custom structures, so can turn their hand to new custom projects quite easily. The Bedford Monolith has been an excellent project to work on and the whole team at Fitzpatrick Woolmer are delighted with the results and we are looking forward to finding out what the people of Bedford think about it.”
