IMac 24.5’ – Everything you need to know

15 February 2023

As regular followers of Tablet Rentals will know, we often write blogs on the latest iPad, Samsung tablet or smartphone release (iPhone or Android), but we haven’t blogged on the iMac for a while.

The iMac has been a consistent part of our product portfolio for the last 10 years during which time we have seen varying sizes of iMac. It was in 2019 that Apple revamped the iMac 21.5’ to such a positive extent that it became part of our product portfolio.

The last iMac was the iMac 24’, which was released in 2021 by Apple replacing the 21-inch and 27-inch Intel iMacs.

This was the first iMac with Apple silicon and a sports a range of funky colour designs, along with an internal Apple M1 chip. Apple silicon is a series of system in a package processor designed internally by Apple mainly using the ARM architecture. It is the basis of most new Mac book computers as well as for iPhone and iPads. As of January this year, all new Apple devices will run with an Apple processor. Any Apple devices running on an M1 Chip (or later) will be seriously powerful and this will only increase as the years go by.

What about the iMac (24-inch)…? They are a big hit with our Tablet Rentals team. We love the exciting colours (we didn’t initially think we would) and the iMac 24’ is definitely an improvement on its 21.5-inch predecessor.

The iMac 24’ has a better and larger screen, but more importantly, it is much more powerful (since it’s running on an Apple M1 chip) and delivers excellent performance.

While the screen is much larger, the dimensions of the iMac (24-inch) is not remarkably different from its predecessor, coming in at 54.7 x 46.1cm with a depth of 14.7cm while the prior 21.5-inch model measures 52.8 x 45cm with a depth of 17.5cm. Incredibly, the screen on this iMac is only 11.5mm thick. It is lighter than its predecessor and now weighs in at a very impressive 4.5 kgs.

The iMac 24’ has a fantastic webcam to accompany a visually striking, modern new look. Thanks to the gorgeous 4.5K Retina screen and great speakers creatives will love this device. As always though, there are a few small gripes. The Apple mouse is still clunky and difficult to charge. Considering Apple’s advanced progress in so many areas, it is odd that the mouse on the iMac has been left behind. The other complaint is the lack of ports on this iMac 24’. It is one of the main questions asked by clients interested in hiring an iMac or renting iMacs for an exhibition stand. Quite often clients plan to use multiple ports, so it would have been advantageous to have had a range of ports.

Despite these small issues, the iMac 24’ is a superb machine. Our personal favourites is the new (sky) blue colour. In a nice touch, the Magic Keyboard, Mouse and Trackpad all come in the same colour as the iMac you choose..!
