SportsDirect scores a makeover with Ultra Floor

Ultra Floor’s levelling compounds, primers and repair mortars have been used to transform a number of Sports Direct stores nationwide.

Sports Direct International plc is the UK’s largest sporting retailer. It was founded in 1982, with the first outlet opening its doors in Maidenhead. The group has over 470 UK stores including the chain SportsDirect.

The chain’s refurbishment programme upgrades its stores to improve trading, as well as investing in staff training and expanding its portfolio of products as it repositions itself in a tough market.

Nottingham based flooring contractor Highgrove Contract Flooring Ltd, have completed subfloor preparation and installation of approx 1800m² of vinyl floor tiles in each of the remodelled stores, using a range of products from Ultra Floor to suit the varying site conditions.

Ultra Floor’s Prime IT N, water based polymer emulsion primer, was used to treat the non-porous substrates, to enhance their bond to the smoothing underlayments. It is available in 5ltr bottles and is applied neat with a brush or roller to the surface.  Coverage of up to 50m² can be achieved per bottle. Prime IT AR, water based acrylic emulsion primer, was used on the porous substrates to stabilise and seal the surface promoting adhesion of subsequent repair mortars, cement based levelling compounds and similar cementitious underlayments.

For smoothing and levelling of irregular substrates that require a greater depth, Highgrove used Ultra Floor’s Level IT one HDB. It can be laid from 3mm to 50mm in one application and can be overlaid with an Ultra Floor leveller for additional depth and that super level finish.

Ultra Floor’s Level IT two, two part latex levelling compound and Level IT three multi component bag and bottle system offered Highgrove versatility. These two part systems allow for fast and efficient mixing preparation since there is no requirement to add water thus reducing time and risk of error. Level IT two is compatible with a range of substrates and has established itself as a multipurpose product. Level IT three multi-component bag and bottle system consists of a polymer modified cementitious powder that can be used with either liquid A Super Dry, for enhanced drying or liquid B, Super Bond, for use over most old adhesive residues.

For a super speedy overlay Highgrove applied Level IT super30, two part powder and liquid system,  which sets in 30 minutes and is ready to receive floor covering after just 3 hours. It can be laid up to 15mm deep on most common substrates. It has enriched polymer, giving a smoother finish, so no rub down is required and enhanced flexibility; ensuring no movement or debonding. Highgrove carried out a majority of the work overnight during store closedowns, to minimise disruption to trade. Floor preparation and coverage was easily achieved within this tight window using Level IT super30.

Patch repairs were carried out using Ultra Floor’s Feather IT smoothing and patching compound, great for smoothing and patching ridges, trowel marks and surface depressions and Patch IT rapid drying mortar, for filling holes and depressions, before the decorative floor covering is installed.
