Design & Display Structures were appointed by main contractor Galliford Try Construction Central to design, manufacture and install nearly 100 portal frames as part of a massive £50m refurbishment scheme.
These modular GRP sections were manufactured as fully finished components to simulate Armoucoat (polished plaster), all ready for the fast track installation phase.
Of impressive sizes each portal comprises 11.3m long horizonal beams placed upon a pair of vertical supporting uprights 5.3m tall.
Lifted to high level under the new atrium roof these portal frames form a significant feature in the central walkway providing larger public areas in addition to the improvements to the surrounding infrastructure.
The plans were designed by Stirling Prize winning architects Stanton Williams. The entire retail mall will be enclosed and sky lit, to create an urban room with new facades, finishes and store frontages.
