Crowtree Leisure - Desuper Heat Exchanger
The City of Sunderland boasts one of the largest leisure centres in the country.
The Crowtree Leisure Centre attracts in excess of 2 million visitors per annum, making it one of the busiest leisure centres in Europe. Facilities include an ice rink, leisure pool, sauna, solarium, indoor bowls, main sports hall, squash courts and other dry sports facilities.A DeSuper heat exchanger, used to recover waste heat from the ice rink’s refrigeration plant and turn it into domestic hot water for the showers etc, had almost totally scaled-up, with 100 out of the 128 tubes within the heat exchanger being blocked.
The Centre had contacted several specialist companies to try and unblock the tubes but, despite these attempts and considerable expense, they had to admit defeat as they feared they might damage the copper tubing.
An ENiGMA Electronic Descaling system was fitted on the water feed pipe to the heat exchanger.
Inspections were carried out at regular intervals and it was noted the ENiGMA was progressively clearing the tubes. At the last inspection all the tubes were found to be clear of scale.
