July News Roundup
LaneSystems Turns 25 | Corporate Responsibility | An Orwellian Future | Password Safety | Mistakes People Make When Buying New Equipment
It’s been a busy month at LaneSystems and along with the usual daily tasks of supporting our clients with IT, we have been digging into some very interesting topics. First and foremost however, we have just celebrated a HUGE birthday!LaneSystems Turns 25!
The fabulous Hayley (striped dress) made a wonderful cake for us to celebrate. Director and owner, Michel Lane (holding the cake) requested we included the following inspiring quote:
“Trying to do it all and expecting it can all be done exactly right is a recipe for disappointment. Perfection is the enemy”.
Michel expanded saying:
“There’s nothing wrong with striving for perfection but as individuals we each have our own ideas as to what this means. In business it’s important to build trust within a great team, allowing people to excel. Through guidance, support and well-structured internal processes a business owner should be able to enhance individuals qualities. Results include a successful and confident workforce with good ethics and a desire to push your business forward.”
Here’s to the next 25!
Discussing Corporate Responsibility With the Team
Throughout the month of June our online focus centred around Corporate & Social Responsibility. This filtered across into July and we decided to let our customers and audience know how we bring this factor into LaneSystems. A huge part of our company is based upon building relationships and that doesn’t end with our customers. It begins with our team and in turn, filters through.
We interviewed three team members. Callum and Hayley are both full time employees who started out as apprentices. They tell us a little about their journey’s to date and expand upon where they would like to be in the future. We also spoke with our newest member, Matthew. As a Network & Digital Communications Apprentice, he is at the very beginning of his career. What’s apparent is how much he thrives on his current position and it’s wonderful to see. You can learn more about Callum, Hayley and Matthew’s journey via the blog, Going the Extra Mile with Corporate Responsibility.
How Accurate Was Mr. George Orwell?
You decide! As a company that’s based heavily around the emergence of new technology, we are very interested in learning about the latest software, hardware and gadgets. We decided to take a trip backover to 1949 when 1984 was published. Our blog, 1984 - 2030, An Orwellian Future investigates the writers predictions in detail. We also look at some of the technology that’s likely to be available to the masses by 2030. It’s an interesting read and it would be great to hear your thoughts!
Hacking a Former Employer
Our local newspaper highlighted a story regarding a disgruntled sacked employee. Password security is something we discuss constantly and often a factor overlooked by companies. Luckily, in this instance, the most harm done was ‘unauthorised acts with intent to impair operation’. The story could have been much worse. North Yorkshire Police Cyber Crime unit are urging businesses to protect against potential security threats and we agree. This story was posted to our LinkedIn account where you can stay up to date with all our news and information.
