The Quacking Transformer:

It was nice to be back on site performing power monitoring surveys.

This time to investigate why a 1,500KVA supply transformer was occasionally producing a “quacking” noise.

Generally the average current was about 60 − 70A per phase, however, there were regular 700A inrush currents with high harmonic content demanded by the load.
