Are you Compliant? : The Importance of Using Safe Hot Melt Adhesives in Chocolate Packaging

Why Compliance Matters:

Hot melt adhesives are widely used in chocolate packaging and given chocolate’s composition, any Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons (MOAH) and Mineral Oil Saturated Hydrocarbons (MOSH) that are contained in adhesives can end up in the end product.  The risks from these complex compounds have been well documented and many major manufacturers and retailers have tasked their suppliers with mitigating these risks.

Some hot melt adhesives use either MOAH or MOSH or both in their formulation, or these compounds can end up in these products from contamination.  Both MOAH and MOSH have been shown to become accumulated in the organs and have links to illness and cancer, so understanding how your hot melt adhesive contributes to the presence of these harmful chemicals is very important.

Henkel Adhesives recognised the importance of firstly analysing and then formulating their adhesives to ensure that MOAH and MOSH levels are minimised and have created the Supra product range to be the most food safe compliant adhesives available for the food packaging industry.
This is done without any compromise to the performance of the adhesive, both on your production line and in the marketplace.

So, perhaps it is worth asking the question…is my hot melt adhesive compliant? If not, then maybe you need to think again about your adhesive.
