Treat Eezi story from the Pacific

Meet Joseph (not his real name for privacy reasons) He lives in Tonga in the Pacific.

Joseph has a spinal cord injury resulting in tetraplegia. He has no sensation or functional movement below the level of his lesion. We have worked with Joseph for over 10 years when visiting Tonga to do volunteer work running wheelchair and seating clinics.

Joseph has always struggled with severe grade 4-5 pressure injuries, to a depth where his bone was exposed, over his sacrum and Ischial tuberosities. He is often hospitalized because of these opening, and complications with healing. Joseph drives a powerchair but does spend a lot of time lying down. On our visit in 2023 to run the clinic he was in hospital again with open and bleeding pressure wounds. We had received a donation of a Treat Eezi single bed overlay to take with us.

I had “tagged“ this for Joseph knowing how well they work with my client base here. We set this up on his hospital mattress (they only have foam mattresses in hospital) Immediately he commented on how wonderful and cooling it was for him! We left this with him and encouraged him to take it home with him and use it on the mat at home that he sleeps on. Nearly all the spinal injured clients prefer to sleep on the floor rather than foam mattress’s due to heat issues. (Yes, there are lots of complications from this) Power supply for air mattress’s is often not available in local homes so the Treat Eezi is an invaluable solution.

Our nurse visited and assessed his wounds twelve months later and they were the most “closed” and healed that they have ever been in the last 10 years. We saw Joseph in September last year and he attributes this mostly to using his Treat Eezi to sleep on.

Thank you for this amazing product and your donation to Altus Pacific Aid to allow more clients to have access to this healing and care option. It just works!

The Treat Eezi mattress overlay is perfect for the spinal injured clients in the Pacific (everyone should have one!!) as it provides cooling and protection to allow healing and prevention of wounds, when not many other options are available.

Thank you for your support in this work!
