Caloo Delivers £194,000 Inclusive Play Installation at Adventure Valley Farm
New accessible playground strengthens family experience at leading North-East visitor attraction
Adventure Valley Farm, the North East’s largest family farmyard fun and adventure park and a member of the National Farm Attractions Network (NFAN), has unveiled a major new inclusive playground installation delivered by Caloo. This marks the second large-scale installation completed by Caloo for visitor attractions within the NFAN network.
The £194,000 investment has created a genuinely accessible play space designed to allow children of all abilities to play together. Working closely with the park’s team, Caloo developed a layout that prioritised wheelchair access, shared play experiences, and equipment that removes barriers rather than separating users.
The new installation includes an accessible swing, wheelchair seesaw, wheelchair roundabout, and a large Quali-Cité Castle Tower Multi-play Unit suitable for children aged two to fourteen. A Sensory Journey SEN Timber Play Unit and Braille alphabet and number panel further support tactile and sensory engagement. Existing play panels were reinstated within the new layout, and deck inserts were added at key access points to improve grip and stability for wheelchair users and carers.
Surfacing played a central role in the project. Caloo supplied and installed 428.4m² of BS EN 1177 certified wet pour rubber surfacing, finished in blue to provide clear visual definition across the play area. Depths were installed at 40mm, 60mm and 80mm to meet fall height requirements. The smooth, resilient surface supports wheelchairs, pushchairs and high visitor numbers while maintaining full compliance with BS EN 1176 and BS EN 1177 standards.
The completed playground has strengthened Adventure Valley’s inclusive offer and has already received positive feedback from visiting families, who have praised the clear layout, ease of access and overall quality of the installation. The new play space now stands as a central feature within the park, supporting longer visits and shared family experiences.
