Keeping your site safe, compliant, and cool this summer

Whether you manage a warehouse, a production floor, a commercial facility, or an industrial site, summer brings the same operational challenge: keeping your work environment safe, compliant, and productive as temperatures rise.

The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 place a legal duty on employers to maintain a reasonable working temperature. ACAS guidance identifies 30°C as the threshold at which a formal risk assessment becomes necessary. For large industrial and commercial spaces, that threshold is easier to reach than most people expect, and harder to manage than a standard portable fan.

Who we are

McCarthy Hire is part of McCarthy Environmental Group, specialists in industrial clean air solutions with years of experience in LEV testing, COSHH compliance, and industrial ventilation. We launched McCarthy Hire to bring the same technical expertise to flexible equipment hire, so industrial and commercial sites can access the right solution without the capital expenditure or long-term commitment of permanent installation.

Why adiabatic cooling - and why it works where others don’t

Most people’s first instinct for a hot warehouse or production floor is portable air conditioning. In most industrial environments, it’s the wrong solution.

Portable AC recirculates and chills existing air. In a sealed, well-insulated space, it works well. But in a warehouse with loading doors open, a production floor with high ceilings, or any space with significant airflow, it struggles to make a meaningful difference, and it uses a significant amount of energy trying.

Adiabatic cooling works differently. It draws in fresh air from outside, passes it through water-saturated evaporative pads, and delivers genuinely cooler air into the space. No compressor. No refrigerant. Significantly more energy-efficient than AC, and far better suited to the open, high-airflow environments found in most industrial and commercial facilities.

All McCarthy Hire coolers include G4 dust filtration, making them suitable for both dusty production environments and clean commercial spaces, as well as an integrated UV lamp for bacterial disinfection of the water system.

Three models to suit different spaces

MC150C -  ideal for smaller spaces

Coverage up to 150 m²  |  440W  |  43 kg  |  Noise from 54 dB  |  Plug and play

Best for: smaller workshops, garages, event areas, and spot cooling requirements.

MC250C - our most popular model

Coverage up to 250 m²  |  640W  |  50 kg  |  Noise from 58 dB  |  Oscillation mode

Best for: open-plan warehouses, production floors, storage halls, and greenhouses.

MC400C - maximum airflow for large spaces

Coverage up to 400 m²  |  850W  |  110 kg  |  Noise from 66 dB  |  High-volume industrial

Best for: large warehouses, manufacturing plants, food production facilities, and events.

All three models run on a standard 220–240V / 50Hz plug connection. No installation required. Water connection via a standard ½" fitting or onboard tank.

Why hire rather than buy

For most industrial and commercial sites, cooling is a seasonal requirement, which means a capital purchase is an asset that sits idle for 8 months of the year, incurring associated maintenance, storage, and depreciation costs.

Hire means you pay for what you use, when you need it. The equipment is current, maintained to standard, and matched to your specific requirements. If your space or your needs change, the solution changes with it.

Beyond cooling

McCarthy Hire also provides dust and fume extraction hire and industrial vacuum hire for sites managing air quality challenges beyond temperature:

• Dust and fume extraction - flexible LEV-compliant units for wood dust, metal dust, welding fume, oil mist, and COSHH-controlled vapours. Repositionable as your process or layout changes.

• Industrial vacuum hire - L, M, and H-class units for production floor maintenance, hazardous material clearance, and facility deep cleans.

If any of this is relevant to your site, we would be happy to discuss the right solution for your space and requirements.
