Intelligent Membranes Sets the New Standard for Airtightness with Passivhaus-Certified Passive Purple®

Intelligent Membranes is redefining building performance with Passive Purple, its BBA-approved, Passivhaus Class A-certified liquid-applied airtight membrane. Backed by "The 0.6 Guarantee," the water-based coating gives builders a faster, seamless alternative to tapes and foils, covering up to 300 m² a day by spray, with no overlaps or weak points.

Intelligent Membranes is a leading provider of building airtightness and waterproofing, offering liquid-applied protective coatings for new-build, retrofit, and Passivhaus projects across the UK, USA, and more than 30 countries worldwide.

At the heart of the range is Passive Purple, a high-performance, liquid-applied airtight membrane that creates a genuinely seamless barrier against air leakage and moisture infiltration. Unlike traditional tapes and foils, which rely on overlaps and joints that can fail over time, Passive Purple is spray-, roller-, or brush-applied directly to the substrate, covering up to 300 m² per day by spray and bonding equally well to brick, timber, concrete, plasterboard, OSB, and steel.

Intelligent Membranes backs the product with The 0.6 Guarantee, a commitment to verified airtightness results of 0.6 air changes per hour or lower, giving contractors and developers confidence that performance claims are tested, not just promised. The formulation holds Passivhaus Institute Class A certification and is BBA approved (Certificate 22/6002), alongside ICC-ES ESR-4715 approval in the US, French A+ and Finnish M1 low-VOC ratings, and WUFI® Database compliance for moisture control design.

Beyond airtightness, the company's wider product portfolio addresses the full range of building envelope challenges: Waterproof Blue Liquid DPM and Poseidon for damp-proofing and bathroom tanking, The GOAT for roofing, FRED and Passive Purple X for fire protection, Soteria for asbestos encapsulation, and a range of primers and accessories including Lime Prime and Supergrip.

The company's water-based, low-VOC formulations are designed with indoor air quality and installer safety in mind, and its products are increasingly specified on schools, commercial buildings, high-rise developments and social housing retrofit programmes, as well as self-build and timber frame projects. Intelligent Membranes also partners with Ecologi, funding a tree for every purchase made.

"Our goal has always been to give builders and specifiers a genuinely better way to hit airtightness and waterproofing targets, one that's faster to apply, backed by real independent certification, and doesn't rely on the weak points that come with tapes and membranes," said Adam White, CEO/Founder, Intelligent Membranes. "The response we've had from Passivhaus projects and retrofit programmes shows there's real appetite for a product that can back up its claims."

With products listed on NBS Source and the RIBA Product Selector, and approvals spanning both European (EN) and American (ASTM) testing standards, Intelligent Membranes is positioning itself for continued growth across both the UK construction market and its expanding international distribution network.
