Creating Sustainable Covered Spaces at Carleton High School

A&S Landscape worked with Carleton High School in Pontefract, part of the ARK Schools Trust, to create a versatile outdoor space that supports both student wellbeing and the school’s sustainability goals.

Two bespoke Motiva VoltSpan™ solar canopies provide around 180m² of sheltered space for more than 120 students, creating a comfortable area for seating, socialising and regulation throughout the year. Finished in Anthracite Grey Duracoat™, the open-sided structures offer excellent airflow and clear sight lines, while integrated solar panels generate renewable energy for the school.

A practical solution with lasting impact, the project shows how solar canopies can combine renewable energy generation with Exceptional Covered Spaces®.
