JS DECO Completes Technically Complex Bespoke Kitchen at Lambarde Square, London

Wakefield-based bespoke furniture manufacturer JS DECO has completed a designer-led kitchen at Lambarde Square in London, technically developing the original concept for manufacture and resolving an unusual 120-degree junction within the room.

The project demonstrates the role specialist furniture manufacturers can play when bespoke cabinetry needs to respond closely to the architecture of a property and an existing design concept.

The original kitchen scheme was developed by the client appointed designer. JS DECO’s role was to translate that concept into furniture that could be accurately manufactured and installed while retaining the intended design.

One of the main technical challenges was a 120-degree junction within the kitchen layout. The cabinetry and adjoining elements therefore had to be developed specifically around the geometry of the room rather than adapted from standard cabinet sizes.

Jacek Sobis, founder of JS DECO, said:

“On projects developed with architects or interior designers, our role is not to take over the design. It is to understand what the designer is trying to achieve and make sure the furniture can be manufactured and installed successfully without losing that intent.

“An unusual angle affects more than an individual cabinet. It can influence adjoining units, worktops, clearances, materials and how the complete elevation reads, so those relationships need to be resolved before production begins.”

The Lambarde Square project required the tall, base and wall cabinetry to work together as a single composition while accommodating the non-standard geometry of the room.

The project reflects a growing area of JS DECO’s work with architects and interior designers. The company can support professional project teams with early feasibility discussions, material advice, technical furniture development, unusual dimensions and junctions, veneer and grain planning, construction development and manufacture.

Furniture is produced at JS DECO’s workshop in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, where the company combines CNC production with cabinetmaking and workshop assembly.

“Good technical development should support the original design rather than dilute it. The earlier we understand which parts of the concept are important, the easier it is to identify any material, construction or installation issues before production starts.”
