‘Mr Compliance’ launched by PHS at the Facilities Show
PHS Compliance, the workplace safety expert, has today introduced ‘Mr Compliance’, a character designed to simplify and clarify the legislative safety demands for small to medium sized organisations.
The bright yellow Mr Compliance was introduced in person to an audience of industry experts at The Facilities Show, where he and his colleagues offered advice and guidance on electrical, gas, fire and water safety standards.According to PHS Compliance, there is often confusion surrounding the demands placed on organisations by British Standards, legislative Orders and other regulations. Sales director Shaun Caddick explained, “We know that with a dynamic regulatory landscape, complying with all the relevant safety legislation can be challenging, not only in keeping a current working knowledge of all the elements, but also in interpreting what is required by the law and its instruments. Our new expert Mr Compliance will translate all that complexity into straightforward advice for SMEs, focusing on them achieving and maintaining compliance.”
Whilst Mr Compliance is the new name for advice for SMEs, managing director of PHS Compliance, Paul Caddick also had a message for expert facilities professionals during his talk in the seminar theatre at the show. ‘From risk to compliance’ was the title of Paul’s speech and it considered how a facilities manager or other duty holder should go about assessing the risk on site from electricity, gas, fire and water; evaluating the scale of potential dangers against the likelihood of an accident or incident. Paul focused on duty holders’ obligations, with discussion concerning the appropriate interpretation of ‘reasonably practicable’, which is the clause in legal documents that can cause confusion.
Paul’s talk was illustrated with case studies and anecdotes from his 12 year history of working with the HSE. In it he picked out a selection of regulations to highlight the topic, using examples of how these regulations have been breached and using these cases to explain how correct procedures could have been put in place to avoid the consequences that had resulted.
Commenting on his delivery, Paul said “My aim is always to lead a clear path through the legislation and regulations, towards helping organisations ultimately achieve complete compliance. We have a highly specialised team to provide expert support to facilities professionals to fulfil their duty of care in the most appropriate and cost effective manner. Plus Mr Compliance is now on hand to offer tailored support to meet the specific needs of SMEs - from compliance in electricity, to gas, water and fire.”
