Solar Cables | Solar Panel Arrays

As solar cable specialists, we offer innovative solutions to projects which rely on both sustained operational performance with minimum maintenance and an efficient initial set up.

These photovoltaic cables cover the full range of cable interconnections between the solar panels and the wider components of the photovoltaic system including converter boxes, inverters, transformers, and local grid substations.

In response to a fast-growing need for energy and to government subsidies, the renewable energy industry in general, and the solar energy sector in particular, have been successfully developing new technologies to harness energy from our environment in order to supply ‘green’ power to local and national networks.

Battery Storage Technology Cables

Battery Storage is growing in importance for a number of industries, playing a key role in emerging technologies.

Primarily linked to Renewable energy generation to E-mobility infrastructure installations, battery storage technology and battery energy storage systems (BESS) are helping to strengthen our sustainable energy infrastructure.

Battery energy storage systems support national power network grid optimisation by stabilising and balancing the outflow. It is part of a wider move to smarter and more efficient grid technology. It is not just national power grids that look to BESS - it is increasingly chosen by large scale industrial installations. In many cases, the combination of size and weight reduction alongside capacity increase makes BESS a viable commercial option when set against rising energy demands and increasing grid volatility. The associated green credentials of optimising power usage also support the application.

On a smaller scale, microgeneration battery storage technology (also referred to as Energy storage systems or thermal stores) is allowing home and business owners to control their own energy consumption, combining with solar PV to provide power on demand rather than having to export excess to the grid.

EV & PHEV Automotive Cables

Supporting both the motor industry and the wider, growing electric vehicle (EV) market, Eland Cables' range of automotive cables and power cables deliver high performance across a range of applications.

Like much of the car industry now, our automotive cable range is predominantly focused on EV cable requirements. It includes automotive cables for the vehicle itself, whether electric or traditional petrol & diesel, such as standard wall FL auto and reduced wall FLR auto cables for low-tension electrical wiring in starting, charging, lighting, signalling and instrument panel circuits, FLRYY cables for trucks (ADR approved), and FHL2G and FHLR2GCB2G cables for powertrain units, as well as cables specific to the standards of Fiat, BMW and other major manufacturers. We also support American standard automotive wires, measured in AWG sizes.

Windfarm Cables | Wind Turbine Cables

Wind turbines stand tall on the landscape both onshore and offshore, harnessing natural resources to generate renewable energy.

Our range of cables for wind turbine towers, nacelles, and their rotor engines support power production from renewable energy installations. The turbines must be durable and able to withstand both the mechanical application and the environmental challenges they may face. As with many applications, limiting downtime and maintenance brings down the cost of production - all important when you're also relying on the weather.

Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A & Cat 7 Cables

Category 5 (CAT 5E), Category 6 (CAT 6 and CAT 6A) and Category 7 (CAT 7) cables are structured cabling for computer networks such as Ethernet. Their specification cover their construction, performance characteristics and test requirements. Category 7 cables are specified in CENELEC EN 50173:2002 and ISO/IEC 11801:2002 standards for installation cables only, however Category 7 cables are not yet recognised by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA/EIA). Category 7 cables, in addition to the approved Cat 5e, 6 and 6a LAN cables, form part of a wide range of cables used for the transmission of Gigabit Ethernet.

Fibre Optic Cable | Optical Fibre

Eland Cables supplies a range of fibre optic cables for both indoor and outdoor installations. These are interchangeably referred to as fibre optic and optical fibre.

Fibre optic cables consist of glass threads, each capable of transmitting digital data modulated into light waves. They effectively send information coded in a beam of light through a glass or plastic pipe. A key advantage of fibre optic cables over metal conductor cables is their superior performance in terms of bandwidth and therefore data carrying performance. Optical fibre cables are generally lighter and less susceptible to electromagnetic interference, however optical fibre tends to be more fragile than cables with a metal conductor.

The applications for optical fibre range from carrying telephone calls (up to several million calls per cable) to high speed data transfer for vast computer networks.

Armoured Cable | SWA Cable | AWA Cable

Eland Cables is a leading aluminium wire and steel wire armoured cable supplier offering a comprehensive range of robust and hard-wearing Low Voltage armoured and Medium Voltage armoured cables manufactured in accordance with British, European and International standards and specifications.

These include low voltage and medium voltage SWA steel wire armour 3 core cable, and all sizes of these widely used armoured power cables with current ratings up to 33kV. For single core cables, aluminium wire armour - AWA - is used to prevent induced current in the armour. Armoured power cables are available with both copper and aluminium conductors as required. The armour provides additional protection where mechanical stress has the potential to cause damage to the cable, such as direct burial, outdoors or underground. The armour also enables the cable to withstand higher pulling loads. It should be noted, however, that the armour provides no protection for climatic conditions.

Armoured cables are often referred to as steel wire armoured cables, SWA cable, mains power cable, single core power cable, and multi-core booklet armoured cable.

Fire Resistant Cables | Fire Performance Cables

We supply a full range of fire resistant and fire performance cables, often also referred to as fire survival cables, fire-proof cables, or simply fire cables. These cables are for markets where British and European standards are used.

These control cables are often referred to by the application, such as machinery supply cable, motor cable and robotics cable. They are also known as multi-core cables, control flex and control flexible cables.

Depending on their construction properties, these flexible cables can be suitable for use under light, medium or high mechanical stresses. They also offer various degrees of protection against electrical interference and resistance to caustic substances and oils.

Fixed Wiring Cable

Fixed wiring cables are predominantly used as power supply cables for sockets, switches and light fittings across residential, commercial and industrial environments.

Designed to be installed in a fixed position, fastened to a support or laid in a specific location, as the name suggests they are not suitable for static or dynamic equipment. These cables are commonly used in construction projects, resulting in them being CPR classified under the Construction Products Regulation, for use across Europe.

To suit different installations and design parameters, our fixed wiring cables are generally available with PVC or Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) outer sheathing, the latter making the cable suitable for where life and equipment needs additional protection in the event of fire.

Our fixed wiring cable range is manufactured in accordance with British and International Standards and many cables in the range hold BASEC certification.

Overhead Line | Aerial OHL Wires

Overhead Line wires, whether bare conductors or insulated cables, provide an aerial route for the transmission and distribution of power.

Overhead lines, sometimes referred to as Aerial conductors, are often specified where there is significant distances to cover and where these cables are best positioned far out of reach. The distances to cover, the environmental conditions it will face, and the location are all factors in specifying the appropriate cable.

Defence Standard Cable | Def Stan Cable 61-12

Eland Cables supplies a range of equipment wire manufactured to Defence Standard (also known as Def Stan), including 61-12 Part 4, Part 5 and Part 6 as well as meeting British and International Standards.

Our equipment wires are extensively used by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in applications requiring high-density wiring within instruments and to connect electronic equipment. These flexible multi-core cables are used in aircraft, process control systems, computers, data processors, military vehicles and military equipment. As a high-grade, high-specification, compact cable, this range can also be used outside of the Defence industry.

PUR Cables | Polyurethane Cables

Polyurethane cables, abbreviated as PUR cable, are halogen free, flame resistant and offer increased mechanical and chemical resistance, making the cables suitable for harsh environments.

In addition to being abrasion resistant, Polyurethane limits the growth of bacteria and microbes which makes the sheathing material particularly suited to use in the food & beverage industry, clean rooms, and complying with the hygiene requirements of production lines.

The use of Polyurethane as a sheathing material also maintains the cable's flexibility, with many of the PUR cables having applications requiring frequent or constant flexing, such as drag cables and powerchain cables as used applications such as conveyors, for flexible drum winding cables for festoons and equipment moving machinery, and for control cables for robotics and machine tooling. Polyurethane is not suitable for insulation material - a different low smoke zero halogen compound would be required  - but there remains benefits of using PUR over PVC and even tough rubber sheathing. In terms of temperature range, PUR cables can operate between -40oC and +125oC, although the individual cable technical specifications should always be referred to for precise upper and lower limits.

High Temperature Cable | High Temp Cable

High temperature cables (also known as High Temp cables) represent a vast range of cables which continue to perform at increased and elevated temperatures.

We supply a range of high temperature cables that are manufactured in accordance with various British and International Standards, including BS6231, BS 3G 210, BS EN 50525-2-41, UL 1015 and CSA 22.2. We also supply high temperature cables meeting Defence Standard (Def Stan) 61-12 Part 8.

Our high temperature cable range includes tri-rated cables which are designed to endure continuous operating temperatures of 105°C and which are fully approved to British (BS), Canadian (CSA) and US (UL) Standards for switchgear and panel wire applications. Our high temp silicone cables , including the H03S-K and 2GTL cables are often used in both refrigeration and furnace applications due to their broad temperature range. Our Intemp 250 cables, sometimes referred to as a high performance glass fibre braid cable or mica glass tape cable, can withstand temperatures of up to 250°C whilst our mineral insulated cables are heat resistant to 950oC.

PVC Cables | PVC Sheath Cable

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) insulated and sheathed cables are used in a wide variety of applications from fixed wiring to flexible installations, and are available in a number of sizes, colours and conductor materials.

As PVC is a thermoplastic polymer, PVC properties make it suitable for applications where the cables may be exposed to high or low temperatures (including use of arctic-grade PVC for extreme low conditions), or where protection against UV light is required to avoid degradation. PVC insulation is frequently used owing to its good insulating properties but low corona resistance, and is best suited for low and medium voltage cables and low frequency insulation requirements. The benefits of PVC as cable insulation and sheathing material include its chemical stability, robustness and durability.
