Outashade destroyed the back of our house and could have killed our family.
In September 2023 Outashade fitted a number of awnings to the rear of our house. The Director and Owner, Jamie Skinner, took on the role of Surveyor and Structural Engineer, advising on the type and size of awning that could be safely fitted. We ordered the awnings to Jamie Skinners approved specification and Outashade fitted the shades a few months later. When they came to fit the shades it was clear the survey had inadequacies and they spent 3 times longer to fit the awnings than stated. Jamie assured us the fitting was safe and correct. In August this year (10 months after fitting) there was a catastrophic failure of the awnings which pulled down the back of our house. It was only by luck there wasn't also serious injury or death. Our entire family, including our 8 year old and 10 year old, had been under the awning just before it collapsed and the collapse was immediate. We have been completely traumatised and have sought answers from Outashade who have resolutely failed to provide the structural calculations from their survey and as a result almost certainly will have voided their insurance policy through negligence.
The awnings cost £18K - all 3 awnings have been removed from our building for safety but no refund has been forthcoming. The repair works are in the region of £22K giving an overall loss of around £40K – but most importantly we are all still alive 🙏. Jamie Skinner stated to us that he has fitted many awnings to single parapet buildings like ours – he said after our catastrophe that he was going to contact all the people he had fitted awnings on single parapet buildings to ensure they are safe. Given that he has failed to provide structural drawings for our building we doubt that he is able or capable of remedying what could be many cases of structurally unsound fittings. If you have had an awning fitted by Outashade please please instruct a structural engineer as a matter of urgency to review the works to ensure they are safe. It’s a literal matter of life or death if the correct structural calculations have not been done and they are fitted unsafely. In many ways we were lucky.

Outashade Ltd
I had my 4 metre long veranda installed by OUTASHADE. Prior to appointing them for the job, I''ve done a thorough research and decided to go with OUTASHADE as their sales team were really helpful and responsive. Also, I found their price very fair and transparent compared to others.
The installation team was also excellent! Very tidy, friendly and punctual. Can''t expect better indeed.
Now I have an amazing veranda under which I can entertain my guests even in winter (and my kitty can go to the loo when it''s raining!), and I am ever so pleased that I made the right choice.
One of the best experience I''ve had with my house renovation.
