Onsite Forklift Truck Training

Onsite Forklift Truck Training

Training at your location

Wallace Instructors come to your premises and use your facilities to deliver training and certification on a machine type of your choice:

Our training is suitable for:
- Novice operators requiring a 'first time' certificate
- For people with some forklift background but no formal training
- Re-certification and/or conversion courses for existing experienced operators

Experienced operators who have not had the benefit of formal training or where corrective tuition is required, could need more than one day to allow the operator ample time to develop and improve their operating skills under supervision and learn the necessary theoretical knowledge of safe working practices and relevant legislation through classroom sessions supported by training films.

At the end of training operators take a practical test and a simple written theory assessment to ensure confirmation of learning.

If you or your operators have any concerns regarding literacy or language comprehension (or doubts about fitness to operate machinery), please bring them to our attention when booking or when on assessment.

Company sponsored operators certificates will bear the name of the company unless we are advised otherwise.

Lorry Driver Training

What is an LGV license?

Anyone who wants to become a lorry driver and drive a large vehicle (a Heavy Goods Vehicle) for work needs an LGV licence. This includes drivers who transport goods, materials, or even passengers in larger vehicles. If you dream of being a lorry driver, delivery driver, or working in logistics, you will need to get your LGV licence.

What are the different Types of LGV Licences?

There are 4 main types of LGV licences, each allowing you to drive different kinds of vehicles. Here’s a quick overview:

•     Category C: This licence allows you to drive vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, but not those with a trailer over 750 kg. It’s the most common type for lorry drivers.
•     Category C1: This is for vehicles between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes. It’s a great option if you want to drive smaller lorries.
•     Category C+E: This licence allows you to drive Category C vehicles with a trailer over 750 kg. It’s perfect for those who want to drive articulated lorries.
•     Category C1+E: This is similar to C1 but allows you to tow a trailer over 750 kg.

Each type of licence has its own requirements and training, so it’s important to choose the one that fits your career goals.

What are differences between HGV and LGV licences?  Check out our earlier blog https://www.wallaceschool.co.uk/blog/what-is-the-difference-between-lgv-training-and-hgv-training which covers what’s involved in HGV/LGV practical training and can help you understand the requirements better.

How do I Apply for an LGV Licence?

Getting your LGV licence involves a few steps, but don’t worry! It’s a straightforward process. And we will help you with all the Steps and Stages mentioned below:

1)    Check Your Eligibility: You must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid UK driving licence.

2)    Get a Medical Examination: You’ll need to pass a medical exam to ensure you’re fit to drive large vehicles.

3)    Apply for a Provisional LGV Licence: You can apply for this through the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency). You’ll need to fill out a form and pay a fee.

4)    Take the Theory Test: Before you can start practical training, you’ll need to pass a theory test that covers road safety and vehicle handling.

5)    Complete Practical Training and Pass your DVSA tests: This is where you’ll learn how to drive a large vehicle.

6)    Beware! It is not a legal requirement for LGV / HGV training to be delivered by an Approved Driving School, with Qualified Instructors. Booking with Wallace School of Transport, who provide DVSA / NRI comprehensive courses, means you can learn all the skills required to pass first time and get your full LGV licence.
