RTD Temperature Sensor Assemblies
YAGEO Nexensos not only supply a wide range of platinum RTD elements but also temperature sensor assemblies in various formats. Of all the numerous sensor designs, two of the most interesting are as follows;
EC3032 temperature sensors are high integrity, encapsulated RTD sensors primarily designed for use in e-vehicle e-motor applications. Their small size and IP68 insulation rating makes them ideal for use in the e-motor stator windings and they are also impervious to varnish ingress and other fluids such as oil or grease. Using a Pt1000B element as standard, the 410mm PTFE long leads make this a very versatile sensor that can be used from -50°C to +200°C.
Our PCB RTD temperature sensors are basically chip RTD elements pre-soldered onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) originally designed for use in domestic calorimeters. The PCB has a meandering, zigzag circuit path to help minimise heat loss from the RTD to improve temperature measurement accuracy. These RTD PCB sensors are sometimes preferred to NTC versions, as their inherent long-term stability is extremely important when accurately measuring and apportioning consumer energy consumption in district heating systems.

SMD Surface Mount RTD Sensor Elements
YAGEO Nexensos manufacture a wide selection of platinum temperature sensors for diverse industries, measuring process temperatures, regulating heating systems and compensating for temperature fluctuations at component level.
The thin film RTD elements were originally manufactured with lead-wires for PCB mounting and use in sensor assemblies. As surface mount technology rapidly developed, the need for SMD Pt100 or Pt1000 sensor elements led to the development of various SMD formats.
1206 chip sizes were the first to appear but as electronic components got smaller, the chip sizes of Pt elements shrank accordingly so that today we can offer 0805 and 0603 Pt100s and Pt1000s as well – 0402 size chips will inevitably follow shortly!
Platinum RTD Temp Sensors
ATC Semitec is the key UK & Irish distributor for the extensive range of platinum RTD sensor elements from YAGEO Nexensos GmbH, from Pt100 to Pt2000.
Based in Hanau (near Frankfurt), Heraeus invented the very first platinum sensor in the early 1900s, initially developing wire-wound technology and then later introducing thin film Pt100 elements in the 1970s.
These thin film platinum elements could be readily mass produced which helped to lower the unit cost. This meant that platinum sensors found their way into a wider range of applications that benefited from their linearity, precision and very stable characteristics. These applications vary from e-vehicle battery sensors and 3D printer heads to aspirating smoke detectors and e-cigarettes. YAGEO are constantly striving to develop their sensors for new and exciting applications and still lead the world today in thin film platinum sensor technology.
Adjustable Thermostats
ATC Semitec stock Campini air and surface-sensing adjustable thermostats which are widely used throughout the heating and domestic appliance industry. A Campini thermostat’s large bimetal blade ensures excellent repeatability and minimum differential (hysteresis), thus ensuring reliable and accurate temperature control.
There are air-sensing thermostats (TY53) where the I²R effects of through current are negligible and also anticipatory designs (TY35-P) where current flowing through the bimetal blade helps trick the thermostat into switching “early”, thus improving the temperature control function.
These adjustable thermostats are capable of switching over 100k cycles with a current rating of 16A/250VAC, so loads of up to 4kW can be readily controlled. With an angular spindle rotation of 300 degrees, you can accurately set the temperature to the desired control level from 6°C to 70°C. Differentials between 1K~3K can be achieved and versions with anticipatory resistors can improve this further. These variable thermostats can also be set down at their minimum setting (6°C±4K) to act as frost protection or anti-condensation controls.
