All Astell Scientific steam generators are manufactured with stainless steel pressure vessels and optional stainless steel pipework, which eliminates the contamination associated with mild steel/copper systems. Astell steam generators are designed with peak demand in mind making them ideal for steam sterilizers or other systems that require instant steam in short, high demand systems. Stainless steel boilers and pipework reduce contamination caused by mild steel systems.

Systems are avalible in either 24KW, 48KW or 72KW with one to three steam source heaters.

The Astell Scientific range of 'Closed Door Drying' benchtop autoclaves are designed to offer convenience and flexibility in the sterilization of wrapped and unwrapped instruments.
Suitable for use in Dental and Veterinary clinics, these units offer sterilization for instruments and glassware with the added benefit of hot air drying. This type of autoclave is also sometimes referred to as a 'Class S autoclave' or 'Type S autoclave'.
Instruments for sterilization could include wrapped and unwrapped metal surgical instruments, unwrapped glassware and pouched hand tools.
N.B. It is recommended only medical accessories such as sterilization wraps, pouches, chemical indicators, and biological indicators are used with this autoclave.
Astell’s Closed Door Drying benchtop autoclave range is available in three sizes and is totally self-contained. These units require no plumbing, and only a standard single phase power supply. They are compliant with BS EN 13060:2014; ISO 9001:2015;
PED 2014/68/EU; ANSI/AAMI ST55:2010 standard; FDA 510(k) approved; and are manufactured to the principles of Medical Devices Directive (93/42/EEC).
This range of 'vacuum-less drying' steam sterilizers include Astell's 'Ecofill' water management system and are one of the most energy efficient autoclaves available. The pressure vessel design ensures the absolute minimum amount of water is used during a sterilization cycle, which not only means comparably low power consumption, but also very quick heating and cooling.

The Hearson Tobacco Oven has been designed to meet the stringent requirements of the industry for moisture testing. The oven provides a continuous flow of pre-heated air which passes over tared sample pans for drying purposes.

The unit comprises a cylindrical drying chamber in which is placed a stand carrying 12 circular copper trays; each tray is designed to take six stainless steel sample pans (TKE186). The top of the drying chamber is enclosed by a hinged insulated lid. In the centre of the chamber is an air distribution tube through which pre-heated air passes over the pans to facilitate the drying process.

The drying chamber is enclosed in a second, larger chamber providing a combined water reservoir and steam boiler in which is housed a copper coil. An immersion heater maintains the water at boiling point. Surplus steam is discharged from the top of this chamber to an air cooled condenser, with the condensate returning by gravity to the reservoir, thus sustaining the water level.

An electrical blower at the base of the oven passes air through the heated copper coil; it then enters the drying chamber through the air distribution tube. After passing over the sample pans, the air escapes to atmosphere via the vent provided in the centre of the lid. The oven is controlled using fused on/off switches for both the heater and air blower. An ammeter is fitted above each switch to indicate the combined load. Air flow through the drying chamber is regulated by a valve and measured by a rotameter calibrated over the range 2 to 20 litres/min.
