Sounding Cock
A marine sounding cock is a compact manually operated valve installed in tanks aboard a ship. It is used to measure (or “sound”) the liquid level—such as fuel oil, fresh water, ballast, or sludge—by allowing a small sample to be drawn, or by inserting a sounding tape or rod.
Purpose of a Sounding Cock
- Enables safe and controlled manual inspection of tank contents
- Provides a method for sampling the tank's liquid at its lowest point
- Frequently utilised in:
- Fuel oil service and settling tanks
- Lubricating oil tanks
- Ballast and freshwater tanks
- Bilge and sludge tanks
We offer a range of Sounding Cock Valves from several leading manufacturers. Please get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.

FSSCDF - Forward Acting Rupture Discs
The FSSCDF Forward Acting Rupture Discs feature precision micro-scored sections that open in controlled petals, using four, six, or more radial score lines to ensure a clean, reliable opening while minimising the risk of petal separation. This design makes them particularly well suited for high burst pressure applications and for systems operating under cycling or pulsating conditions with gases or liquids, without compromising safety margins.
These discs respond to overpressure within milliseconds, opening fully without fragmentation, and are ideal for protecting safety relief valves. They support an operating-to-burst pressure ratio of up to 85%, offer excellent corrosion resistance, and can be further enhanced with an optional PTFE lining. In many applications, the discs can also withstand full vacuum conditions without additional supports, providing flexible installation options.

FSSCDA - ASME approved Rupture Discs
The FSSCDA rupture disc features precision micro-scored petals with four, six, or more radial scores, ensuring fast, controlled opening while minimising the risk of petal separation. This design makes the disc particularly suitable for high burst pressure applications. It can be used with both gases and liquids, including under cycling and pulsating conditions, without reducing safety margins. In an overpressure event, the disc activates within milliseconds and opens cleanly without fragmentation, making it ideal for protecting safety relief valves.
The FSSCDA supports an operating-to-burst pressure ratio of up to 85% and offers excellent corrosion resistance, which can be further enhanced with an optional PTFE lining. In many applications, the disc can also operate under full vacuum conditions without the need for support, providing added flexibility. These discs comply fully with ASME Section VIII, Division 1 requirements.
