Hazardous Waste will be 100% Recycable

07 August 2008

A brand new hazardous waste plant in Merseyside has been designed to recycle or re-use all hazardous waste.

The new plant, opened by the OSS Group is capable of processing all oil and fuel, as well as air filters, metals and plastics including empty plastic containers that can hold up to 240 litres of liquid. The recycling process involves shredding and separating the basic elements of paper, plastic, metal and residual waster oils. The oil will be recovered and used to fuel the hazardous plants fuel oil product, the solid wastes will be cleaned packaged and sent to the various re-processors and the shredded material once cleaned will cease to be deemed as hazardous waste.

As well as dealing with wastes collected through its own nationwide “HazTech” hazardous waste collection service, the use of the fragmentation plant will be available to third party customers at commercial rates for items delivered to its site in Knowsley, Merseyside. The service will include the full cleaning of containers used to transport filters or other items.

According to Group Sales and Marketing Manager Mark Bridgens, “This is one of very few such plants in the UK that is licensed to receive and handle hazardous waste. Our process, now classed as the best available technology, means that virtually all the waste we receive gets recycled and we are rapidly moving to a position where 100% will be recycled or re-used.”
