Construction Specialties secures spate of North West Healthcare Contracts

Construction Specialties (C/S) is set to begin extensive interior retrofit works at North Manchester General Hospital following a series of successful installations across the North West.

with VINCI Construction, who also consulted C/S on a £17m pioneering
cancer centre at The Christie in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
Working alongside project architects Taylor Young, C/S provided and
installed bespoke Acrovyn wall impact protection systems to the ground, first and second floors of The Christie’s Royal Oldham Radiotherapy Department.

“We were looking at ways to prolong the lifespan of the facility and
indeed safeguard the huge investment that was ploughed into creating
the Centre,” says VINCI Construction’s Alistair Ruttle, site project
manager. “Construction Specialties appreciates the architectural
requirements in such a high impact and sensitive environment and the
resulting system achieves superior yet unobtrusive protection to the walls and door surfaces throughout the building.”

To protect external corners vulnerable to damage, C/S installed its
Acrovyn® corner guards, which flex under impact and prevent
continuous maintenance. Crash rails from the same range were also
fitted with shock-absorbing bumper cushions to maximise impact
protection and pedestrian support; while bed locators mounted on
powder coating aluminium brackets were fitted to prevent damage to the department’s walls. From a hygiene perspective, Acrovyn sheeting was used to stop chemicals and other stains spoiling wall and door surfaces.

At North Manchester General, C/S has already installed heavy duty
Acrovyn crashrails, impact and scratch resistant rub rails and corner
guards; as well as 2mm Acrovyn sheeting to the walls. Acrovyn kick
plates and push plates protect internal doors throughout the hospital.
The latest works began in late November 2011.

“We’re obviously immensely proud to be associated with such landmark
projects. Our relationship with VINCI Construction is growing project-byproject and we are delighted that they are seeing the value in our work,” said Wendy Duckham, Sales Director at Construction Specialties “It is especially gratifying to be involved in transforming patient services and creating a lasting legacy that will help people for many more years to come.”
