What Industries are benefiting from laser engraving?

Laser engraving is a great technique used in a variety of industries. But what exactly does the process involve?

Laser engraving is the practice of removing material to create a pattern. Executed through the power of laser beams, once removed, you're left with a contrast of different shades within the material. Best results are usually completed with an industrial lasering machine. This technique can be performed on many different materials. Here’s just a few examples:

Leather: Personalised leather clothing items are often created using laser engraving. Another great example would be personalised wallets or purses.

Wood: Many childrens toys have laser engraving incorporated into them for example a company logo or an illustration for the design.

• Acrylic: This is often used for advertisement boards. It’s durable over long time periods even in harsh weather conditions.

Plastics: Again childrens toys are often made from plastics which is a great material for laser engraving. Company logos, illustrations or even slogans are easily engraved into plastic materials and objects.

So which industries actually benefit from laser engraving?

So many different industries benefit by using laser engraving as it’s an efficient and reliable method. Because this approach is suitable for so many materials, it’s extremely sought after. But which industries in particular benefit from laser engraving?

Lets begin with the food industry. Food and hospitality industries massively rely on laser engraving as a method of advertisement. Laser engraving is used to create logos on packaging, helping brands stand out in a crowded marketplace. This method also creates designs on unique and quirky menus in restaurants, cafes and other hospitality environments. Laser engraving has the ability to create much more complex designs and therefore is extremely beneficial for the food industry.

As for the medical industry, laser engraving is critical. Used to create markings required on medical equipment or even traceable combinations needed apparatus, it’s the quickest and most effective method. Perhaps the biggest benefit is the fact laser engraving is contactless. With no direct contact, contamination and any chances of spreading infection are reduced dramatically.

The electronic industry again is another sector heavily reliant on laser engraving technology. This approach is a much safer method for making serial numbers and labels for devices in comparison to some other methods where important details could be easily removed.

Finally, we have jewellery. Jewellery is often personalised using the art of laser engraving. Jewellery pieces also require this method in creating actual designs. For example, the face of a watch or logo on a necklace. Laser engraving is also a safe method with no harsh chemicals used.
