Intumescent spray painting of structural steels

This newly constructed industrial unit required 60 minute fire protection of the steel columns and beams.

Sprayzone were chosen to carry out this spray painting project as their experience in intumescent spray painting meant that they were quickly able to identify the correct approach to fire proofing based on the site conditions and proposed use of the building. In this case that meant that a solvent based intumescent base coat was applied with a compatible top seal afterwards.

The specialist intumescent basecoat used by Sprayzone was Nullifire SC902 which is a low VOC, one coat, high build system providing up to 120 minutes of fire resistance. The key features of this are:
  • Fast cure, even below 0°C, touch dry in 1 hour
  • Early weather resistance, shower proof within 1 hour
  • Self-priming system tolerant of light rusting to steel, up to 2 weeks post blasting
  • High build potential with all ratings possible in one application
  • Fire rating up to 120 minutes tested to BS476 and EN13381: Parts 6, 8 & 10
  • Designed for on-site use
  • Optifire®+ unique traceability identifier
