Barnard Castle
I was recently approached by Sarah Gent from the TCR (Community Hub) in Barnard Castle, County Durham, to ask if I could assist with some site lighting for their Christmas “Light Up” event on December 1st.
Having visited the Castle (an English Heritage site from which the town takes its name, obviously), I recommended that rather than providing area lighting, we should illuminate the ruins to create a backdrop to the lantern parade that concluded on the lawn in front of them. Sarah asked if the colours we used could follow a Northern Lights theme and also asked if we could project stars onto the walls.
As there is a deep moat between where the blue and green lights were to be situated and the castle walls, the projection distance was between 30 and 40 metres. The projection distance for the Magenta light was 45 metres! Under those circumstances, the best solution we could offer was to use four of our Studio Due City ColoR10 (stage) fixtures. With their massive output of 58,400 lumens, they were absolutely perfect and with the chosen colours requiring less than 5A in total, were happily supplied by one of our small Honda generators, along with a pair of IP65 LED profiles to project the required stars.
The customer was very happy with the result as were all involved!
