Demco listened prior to Powerhouse Library re-design

Listening to young people was a very important part of the design process when we created the designs for the new Powerhouse Library at Moss Side, Manchester.

Demcos'' The Creative Lab carried out a workshop with some young people at The Powerhouse where they talked about furnishings, colours, fabrics and created some of their own signage ideas.  The findings from this and other workshops formed an important basis for our layout and selection of furnishings which has resulted in a very ‘cool’ library space designed by Demco for the young people who are now using it.

Lisa Powell, Young People’s Services Manager for Manchester Libraries said;

“Involving young people and using their ideas as an integral part of the design process, has given us a library we are all very proud of”. The redevelopment of the Powerhouse Library was funded by the Big Lottery Community Libraries Programme.
