Emergency Clearance of Fallen Willow Trees – St James Mill, Norwich

During the storms in late July, the Plantscape tree team was called out to St James Mill in Norwich after two large Willow trees collapsed into the river.

High winds, saturated ground, and the additional weight from the rain had caused the Willows to uproot and fall into the river, partially obstructing public access and the navigational course of the river. Due to the trees’ size and their potential to block the river, a rapid response was essential to make the area safe and restore access.

Our arborists attended site promptly to assess the situation and carry out emergency clearance works. The footpath was closed and a diversion set up to ensure public safety. The Broads Authority River Ranger boat set out buoys to warn passing boats of the submerged trees and sat downstream on a blind bend to warn passing boats. Using our grapple saw crane lorry and a boat, the team safely dismantled and lifted the fallen trees from the river, working carefully to avoid further disruption to the surrounding landscape and riverside wall.

Thanks to swift coordination and the experience of our team, the works were completed safely and efficiently, with minimal disturbance. We’re proud to support the maintenance of Norwich’s green spaces and to play a part in keeping riverside paths safe and accessible for the public.

If you require emergency tree work or scheduled maintenance, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team.
