Creating environmentally harmonious play in Hugglescote

After successfully installing the first play area at Hugglescote Grange 4 years prior, Proludic was once again chosen to deliver nature inspired play, designing the LEAP (Local Equipped Area for Play) within the next phase of the Hugglescote Grange housing development.

Hugglescote Grange is a community of around 2,700 high-quality family homes built as part of a Harworth Group development. 41% of the site is dedicated to green spaces, including National Forest planting and a recently opened Forest school. Proludic’s challenge was to design a play space that would harmonise with the newly created natural landscape. The resulting design is attractive to toddlers, juniors and carers and provides opportunities for inclusive, imaginative, physical and social play.

Magical, nature inspired play features

The client’s brief emphasised a natural aesthetic and robust materials. In response, Proludic used a design from the Origin’ Robinia wood range. The range has an organic appearance and the ability to blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

The main attractions are two multi-play bird’s nest towers, featuring green elements wrapped around the top to emulate a nest. One tower connects to a unit with cylindrical tunnels and a slide, while the second features a spiral slide that winds to the ground.

Installed across the area are springers, suspended rings, and a swing which accommodates different ages with flat and cradle seats. A pixel panel, spinning bowl and network of connecting paths complete the space and ensure inclusivity and accessibility.

The sloping site presented engineering challenges, but Proludic collaborated closely with the landscape architects and Harworth Estates to deliver a play area that exceeded expectations. Hugglescote Grange is a safe, engaging, and visually harmonious play space which will be enjoyed for years to come.
