The safest way to handle steel drums in your warehouse
Steel drums are among the most commonly mishandled loads in warehouses. A full 200-litre steel drum can weigh over 250kg. Rolling, tilting or steadying them manually increases the risk of strain injuries, crush hazards and loss of control — particularly where drums are moved regularly or stored in racking.
Manual aids such as trolleys may be suitable for occasional, short-distance movement. However, where drums are handled frequently, forklift-mounted drum attachments provide:
- Secure mechanical grip
- Reduced manual strain
- Greater control during lifting
- Faster, more consistent handling
If your warehouse regularly moves full steel drums, reviewing your current handling method could reduce injury risk and improve operational efficiency.
St Clare Engineering designs forklift-mounted drum handling attachments built for demanding warehouse environments.
