Ridgewood School Dials Up Campus Safety
Ridgewood Community High School in Burnley needed reliable radios to coordinate staff during fire evacuations across its 186-pupil special school campus. Their existing walkie-talkies couldn't cover the full site. SFL supplied 10 Kirisun DP405 digital radios plus an Ofcom licence in October 2025. The result was full campus coverage with clear audio. ICT Support Officer Alex Berry rated both the product and service five stars.
Ridgewood Community High School in Burnley is a special school supporting students aged 11-19 with learning difficulties. With 186 pupils across a modern campus, keeping staff connected during fire drills and evacuations is absolutely critical.
The Challenge
Ridgewood needed radios they could depend on for fire alarm procedures and campus-wide evacuations. Their existing standard walkie-talkies weren’t reliable enough to cover the entire school site, leaving gaps in communication when coordinating staff and making sure every student was accounted for.
The Solution
In October 2025, SFL Mobile Radio supplied 10 Kirisun DP405 digital radios to Ridgewood Community High School. We also arranged an Ofcom licence for the site, so everything was ready to go straight out of the box.
The Results
The difference was immediate. The radios now cover the entire campus and beyond, with crystal-clear audio that helps staff coordinate during evacuations.
“When used the radios have performed very well and the Head teacher is very happy with them. They cover the campus and then more. They are clear and help coordinating staff when making sure the building is fully evacuated. Luckily they have only been used for drills thus far but I hope it stays that way.” – Alex Berry, ICT Support Officer
Alex praised the buying experience too: “It was a very easy experience. Any questions I had was answered and the advice they gave really helped coming to this conclusion.”
He rated both the products and service 5 stars.
