Every year our European Sawmills close down for their annual summer shutdown but here at Whitmore’s Timber we have been getting prepared.

With no deliveries due for 3 weeks during August the stock is being built up as we help to ensure our customers don’t suffer any disruption to their business.

Our current stock holding of over 300m3 of Air-Dried Beams along with good stocks of Fresh Sawn Oak ensures we are ready for this period.

Mark Reid the company Purchasing Manager said of this period “it’s a challenge we face every year, the good thing is the sawmills are all closed at the same time so at least you can plan and prepare as much as possible and ensure you have good flows of stock arriving prior to it happening.

“The key is trying to ensure you have the fast-moving sizes on the ground in plentiful supply but then of course its ensuring that come the end of August you are ready to get your fresh orders on to replenish the stocks”
