The Evolution of Laminate Finishes: Why Laminate Is No Longer a Compromise
Laminate is no longer simply a cost-effective alternative to veneer, metal or stone. Advances in printing, texturing and surface manufacturing have transformed it into a credible design material in its own right.
This article explores the evolution of laminate finishes, from early visual imitations to today’s highly realistic woodgrains, stone reproductions, metallic effects and ultra-matt surfaces that engage both sight and touch.
It also looks at how modern laminates can support reception and office furniture projects through greater design flexibility, consistent finishes, durability and efficient fabrication, alongside examples that demonstrate how laminate can be combined with other materials to create considered, high-quality interiors
Tailored Office Design for Raymond James Following a Merger
Delivered in collaboration with CitySpace Management, the expansion of Raymond James’ offices at Ropemaker Street and St James’s Square combined bespoke craftsmanship with practical design solutions to support the firm’s growth following its merger with Charles Stanley.
Across four floors at Ropemaker Street, our work included oak-veneered fin systems, informal breakout islands and flexible furniture for a media suite used for global broadcasts.
At the executive offices in St James’s Square, we created a solid marble and book-matched walnut reception desk, alongside matching furniture and bespoke features designed to discreetly conceal partitions and hospitality areas.
Despite complex structural requirements, lift outages and the need to coordinate multiple trades, both sites were completed within the phased programme. Early involvement and regular communication helped preserve the original design vision while responding to evolving project demands.
