Stannah colleagues raise more than £20,000 for 12 UK charities in nationwide cycling challenge
Stannah lifts keep people and goods moving every day. Through this challenge, colleagues supported 12 charities across the UK by cycling the equivalent of 1.28 million lift journeys.
Stannah Lifts Distribution & Service (LD&S), Stannah’s nationwide commercial lift installation and service business, has raised £20,426 for 12 UK charities through a cycling challenge involving more than 700 colleagues across its 12 locations.
The challenge reflected the teamwork, local relationships and nationwide service network at the heart of LD&S. Through its branch network and more than 300 service engineers, the business installs, maintains, repairs and modernises passenger, platform and goods lifts, helping to keep people and goods moving safely across the UK.
Colleagues were challenged to cycle 4,000 miles – the equivalent of one lap of Britain – using an exercise bike that travelled between Stannah locations every two weeks. By the end of the challenge, they had cycled 5,453 miles, exceeding the original target by 36%.
Alongside raising funds, the initiative encouraged physical activity, strengthened connections between colleagues and supported charities with meaningful links to Stannah’s teams and their local communities.
Beginning at Stannah’s Andover headquarters in April, the exercise bike travelled to 11 regional service branches across the UK. Glasgow recorded the highest mileage, at 630 miles, while the West Midlands raised the largest amount, securing £3,030 for LoveBrum. Dartford colleagues raised a further £2,350 for We Are Beams, with all 12 locations contributing to the final total of 5,453 miles and £20,426.
Each Stannah location selected a charity with a local or personal significance. Together, the charities provide services including hospice care, support for children and families, mental health provision and help for people affected by domestic abuse.
The initiative also received support from local civic representatives, several of whom visited Stannah branches and joined colleagues on the bike.
Archie Hungwe, CEO of Stannah LD&S, said: “The commitment shown by colleagues across every location has been inspiring. By working together, they have exceeded our cycling target and raised a significant amount for charities that make a real difference within their communities.”
He continued: “The challenge demonstrates the teamwork, determination and local connections that are central to Stannah LD&S. I would like to thank everyone who cycled, fundraised or supported the initiative for making it such a success.”
This nationwide challenge has been about far more than tallying up miles and testing endurance. It has been about unity, connection, teamwork, wellbeing and giving back to communities across the country — all while celebrating the engineering and service teams who keep Britain moving every day.
