A small flat or house typically takes around 30 minutes, while a 4–5 bedroom property may take about an hour. Surveys are non-invasive—no furniture is moved and no drilling is required. Full access to the property is necessary.

The simplest and most cost-effective way to boost your EPC score is by replacing as many lightbulbs as possible with LEDs. If you’re unsure about your current bulbs, ask the assessor before the visit for guidance. On the day, they may have LED bulbs available starting from just £2 each, depending on size and type.

Installing loft insulation to a minimum depth of 270mm can significantly boost your EPC score. You can do it yourself using materials from a DIY store, builder’s merchant, or online—remember to wear a proper mask, protective eyewear, and disposable overalls, and follow safety guides to avoid damage or injury. Alternatively, a professional installer can do the job, and you may even be eligible for a Government grant.

Replacing single glazing with double glazing is one of the more costly upgrades, but it can greatly improve your home’s energy efficiency. It reduces heat loss, potentially paying for itself in just a few years, while triple glazing can boost your EPC score even more. Modern double-glazed windows also offer enhanced security features.
