Dry Riser Installation
Each dry riser can be no more than 45 metres apart or 60 metres if your building has sprinklers installed. If your building currently has a sprinkler system you still require a dry or wet riser. The inlet breaching valves should be no more than 18 metres from closest fire brigade access point with the closest outlet no more than 45 metres from closest fire brigade access point (where the fire brigade would park their appliance in a emergency).
When it comes to the installation of Dry riser systems it isn’t always necessary to core holes through a slab, we have in the past installed on the external of a building, this pipework doesn’t need to be boxed in and can simply be painted whatever colour required.
Dry Riser Maintenance
It is estimated that over 50% of all Dry Riser Systems in England and Wales are currently not being maintained in accordance with current BS 9990-2015 standards. All Dry Riser systems should be pressure tested to 12 bar of water for a minimum of 15 minutes once a year. Or after use by the fire brigade. The system should be checked for any vandalism that might effect its operation in the event of an emergency.
FIRETECH DRY RISERS have quickly gained a reputation for their knowledge and expertise when it comes to maintaining dry riser systems. We currently work for a number of councils within the London area, as well as housing associations and other fire protection companies across the country which is steadily increasing month on month due to our passion for excellence, we currently service in excess of 50 dry riser systems per week.
Fire Hydrant Testing
They are generally found on large premises such as universities, hospitals and large industrial areas. It is vital to keep these systems in good working order should they ever be needed.
It is advised that you regularly check these and have them tested each year in accordance with the British Standards, as fire hydrants are below ground level they often become clogged, damaged or inaccessible.
Hose Reel Testing
The British Standards require you have a flow rate and pressure test, with a service label attached to the reel, as well as a pressure test on the hose itself every 5 years.
Although hose reels are not as common anymore and some Fire authorities have advised them to be removed and replaced with a alternative means of fighting a fire, whether this be a dry riser, fire extinguisher or sprinkler system, in some cases this isn’t feasible.
FireTech have a wealth of experience within this sector, servicing numerous sites across the country from a large caravan site in Blackpool to a office block in Cornwall, no matter the size of your property we can be off assistance.
On successful maintenance completion of your hose reels you will be issued with certification for each individual hose reel stating they are in good working order, and can be used in the event of a fire. If your systems fail we carry a large stock and can usually solve any issues on the spot.
We also offer decommissioning services, if your hose reel system is no longer required for whatever reason we can safely isolate and remove and cap of the incoming water supply.

About us
Established in 2017, Fire Tech Dry Risers Ltd initially began as a subcontractor focused solely on providing labour services. Prior to this venture, we gained over a decade of valuable industry experience while working with a prominent national dry riser company.
Building a stellar reputation, our director, Jack Maher, made a significant move by acquiring a van and initiating subcontracting services under the banner JM Fire Protection. We experienced rapid growth, expanding both our team and client portfolio, and soon had four operational vans. This allowed us to collaborate with numerous fire protection companies on projects of varying scales across the United Kingdom. Chances are, we've likely handled dry riser installations for you on previous projects.
Our Products & Services Include:
Dry Riser Installation
Dry risers can have diverse configurations, yet typically, they are mandated for structures surpassing 18 meters in height or when the fire brigade's access is significantly limited.
Dry Riser Maintenance
Maintaining your dry riser in proper working condition is of utmost importance. It is strongly advised to conduct a visual inspection every six months and a hydraulic test every twelve months on your system. Neglecting the maintenance of your building's dry riser (or other fire protection equipment) may potentially invalidate your building insurance coverage.
Fire Hydrant Testing
Regularly inspecting your fire hydrants and conducting annual tests following British Standards recommendations is recommended. Fire hydrants, being situated underground, can frequently experience issues such as blockages, damage, or inaccessibility.
Hose Reel Testing
The maintenance of hose reels is regulated by BS-EN-671-3, which advises regular checks and inspections by a qualified individual or company. According to British Standards, it is necessary to conduct a flow rate and pressure test, affix a service label to the reel, and perform a pressure test on the hose itself every 5 years.
Other Fire Suppression Equipment on Offer Includes:
- Dry Riser Cabinets
- Dry Riser Valves
